The reality is that food photos have become a plague in the digital era. And to be honest the last thing I feel like doing is going through a thousand photos of someone’s dinner.
So why not do something useful?
Me and a good friend started StewQuest a few months back, where we gather recipes of international and historical fame and try to replicate them, learning how the stews are made and getting a taste of far away cultures while we are at it. Another pleasant side effect of the project is that we are learning a lot about food photography.
Why just stews? Whats wrong with soups?
Stews start out as the “healthy” version of soups, when the harvest was good and hunt was plenty. Soups on the other hand may have grown to be an art on their own, but in the beginning their purpose was to make a lot from very little.
